Who We Are
Alpha Foster Family Agency
Founded in 1987 by Marilyn Lang, the purpose of Alpha Treatment Centers is to provide foster care and treatment for abused and/or neglected children while re-unification services with their families of origin are being explored and/or completed. We currently serve around 400 foster children in Southern California and have provided services for thousands of foster children since our founding.
The Alpha Treatment Centers foster care program is designed to assist foster children in building higher levels of self-worth, forming better self-images and developing the necessary skills to function more efficiently and effectively. This is accomplished through placing emphasis on preserving attachments (family, friends, possessions, etc…) already established and by encouraging each child to form positive bonds with people in her/his new environment.
Each child has an Alpha Treatment Centers social worker assigned to him/her rather than to the foster home. The assigned Alpha Treatment Centers social worker remains involved with the child’s treatment throughout her/his stay in Alpha Treatment Centers except in extenuating circumstances. In turn, each certified foster home has a foster home coordinator assigned who is the ombudsperson for the home. The certified foster parent is a part of the treatment team and is trained to help the foster children placed in their home.
The programs within Alpha Treatment Centers are recruitment and placement of children in our certified foster homes, case management and therapy of the placed foster children by our social worker staff, many of whom are clinically licensed or license-eligible, preventive and clinical services, monitored (primarily by our certified foster parents) visitations, and other services identified on the child’s individualized treatment plan (developed by the treatment team which consists of the certified foster parent(s) and the Alpha Treatment Centers social worker, with input from the county social worker or other placement worker).
Alpha Fos-Adopt Program
Staring in January, 2008, Alpha Treatment Centers will be required to train all new foster parents as Fos-Adoption parents, which will enable foster parents to be able to adopt foster children through our program without a lot of red tape usually associated with adoptions. As A Fos-Adopt parent, it will enable you to have Alpha's services while the children are in foster care and then if you choose to adopt the child(ren), funding and services through the State will still be available. The need for adoptive parents grows more and more each day, so we encourage our parents to consider adoptions of the foster child, especially when the family bond is there.
Alpha Adoptions Centers
Beginning in March, 2008, Alpha Adoptions Centers should be fully operational. This will be a full service adoptions only center designed to bring the right children and adoptive parents together. We will be focusing on both domestic and international adoptions for those who wish only to adopt without being foster parents.
